Far-Right Republicans Continue Attack on WHO over Pandemic Treaty
Obviously Ron Johnson is involved
Earlier this month, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and a handful of GOP senators introduced the “Defending American Sovereignty in Global Pandemics Act.” An August 2nd press release on Johnson’s website read:
On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) joined U.S. Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and eleven of their Senate GOP colleagues in introducing the Defending American Sovereignty in Global Pandemics Act. The legislation would stop the United States from entering any international agreement, convention, or instrument with the World Health Organization (WHO) related to pandemic prevention or response without ratification by the Senate. It would also prohibit the WHO from using American taxpayer dollars on partisan international pandemic treaties without approval by the United States Senate.
Sens. Johnson and Barrasso were joined by U.S. Sens. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
I previously wrote about Johnson’s central role in the protests over the World Health Organization’s (WHO) attempt to organize a pandemic treaty.
At the WHO's World Health Assembly in May, members voted on key amendments to the 2005 International Health Regulations. While they fell short of their goal of having a pandemic treaty proposal prepared for voting at the Assembly, they committed to finalizing a proposal within the year.
This continued bad faith attack by a nationalist isolationist political movement comes on the back of the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic — made all the more devastating by disinformation-spewing MAGA politicians like Johnson. And it deserves extra scrutiny given increasing concerns about the H5N1 avian flu and monkeypox, the latter having just been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the WHO.
We must learn from the “massive global failure” that was the COVID-19 response in order to prepare for the next pandemic. If Johnson has taught us anything with his actions over the past four years, it is that he is absolutely not to be trusted with public health matters.

You, Miss Information, are the best example of the kind of misinformation that you are allegedly seeking to censor and control. Your political bias and immature opinions are doing no one any good. The fact that you fail to acknowledge that the WHO is the last organization that should be in charge of declaring pandemics says it all. You are either brainwashed, paid to spew 🐂💩, or both. You need to pull your head out of your _ _ _ ASAP. You spread way more propaganda than you kill. And to think that you may actually be a doctor scares the heck out of me and many others. If misinformation kills then you are guilty of murder. Why don’t you try to find something else to do with your free time like grasping the true facts why Senator Johnson et al are so against handing over our sovereignty to a group of homicidal psychopaths at the WHO (Wholesale Homicide Organization). Grow up young lady. Only people who lack critical thinking skills believe what you spew and can find all that they would ever want at any large dairy farm. Get a life.
So, speaking obvious truths (everything that Fauci, Birx, et al said were and have been proven to be false and/or lies) and being open to discussing and exploring and even debating the ‘official narrative’ with all its holes is now a far right position.
By implication that makes the left and the center a position of delusion and gaslighting.
