The Brownstone Institute's dark money and disinformation doctors
More financial questions emerge about Jeffrey Tucker's Koch-backed, conspiracy peddling science "nonprofit"
ExposedbyCMD’s Walker Bragman has done extensive work into mapping the dark Koch money behind the Great Barrington Declaration as well as their New Civil Liberties Alliance filing lawsuits against President Joe Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom to keep their debunked disinformation alive.
The Brownstone Institute, the “spiritual child” of the Great Barrington Declaration, has been a preferred outlet for disinformation doctors and their allies. We have mapped ties to disinformation doctor groups and the Brownstone Institute in our own work.
Bragman’s latest investigation into Jeffrey Tucker’s 501c3 deeply political nonprofit raises more questions about his funding sources - and the man himself.
As Bragman explains in his newsletter Important Context, Tucker has a “neo-Confederate past” and some very interesting stances on child labor laws. In addition to Tucker’s ties to Koch money, there are some nine mystery donors funding this “nonprofit” that is definitely in violation of its 501c3 status.
Brownstone’s 2021 IRS Form 990 belies its populist appeals. Based on the group’s tax filings, a handful of large donations accounted for more than 83% of its total revenue.
Brownstone brought in nearly $1.2 million in 2021 in contributions and grants, with $1 million, or 85%, coming from just nine donations ranging from $25,000 to $600,000. Donation amounts for the remaining $179,000 were not disclosed.
We have discussed the 501c3 filing status of the disinformation doctor groups here previously. It is important to note that the pro-Trump hydroxychloroquine group America’s Frontline Doctors was made by the secretive far-right Council for National Policy (of which the Charles Koch is a key ally). AFLDS’s insurrectionist front woman Dr. Simone Gold is now a member of the CNP and GBD signer Dr. Jay Bhattacharya has spoken at at least one of their events. The AFLDS ivermectin spin-off, the Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care Alliance used the same tele-health platform for their early treatment grift as their predecessor. Furthermore, the FLCCC has contributed to the Brownstone Institute. So we can add the Brownstone’s mystery donors to our growing list of financial concerns for this relatively small but well-funded network.
As both we and Bragman have pointed out, the GBD/Brownstone crowd are involved in the continuation of Trump-era Covid politics, particularly in Governor Ron DeSantis’s Florida. His state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo is a founding member of AFLDS and their new public health “integrity” committee consists of GBD signers Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Martin Kulldorff.
The committee also boasts the Florida Health Department’s California “consultant” Dr. Tracy Beth Høeg of the Urgency of Normal. The Urgency of Normal can be thought of as a second attempt at the Great Barrington Declaration. Naturally, they have contributed to the Brownstone Institute.
As Trump’s CNP heir apparent Ron DeSantis moves to permanently ban mask and vaccine mandates - as well as teaching of history, abortion access, and acceptance of the LGBTQ community in line with the Christo-fascist ethos of the CNP - we deserve answers into this dark money.
I’ve been personally targeted in the Brownstone Institute who claim none of the people who are openly working together are doing so. That is some pretty impressive gaslighting from the mysteriously-funded Jeffrey Tucker outlet.
